Sean Green, who is more commonly known as ‘Grizzly Munro Diaries’ on Instagram, has been an ambassador for Urge for a little while now.

A few years ago, he set himself the mission to tackle all of the 282 Scottish Munros aboard his mountain bike and has been documenting his trips ever since. Naturally, the combination of the breath-taking landscapes, action-packed clips and stills and jaw-dropping bike builds (not to mention Sean’s epic tattoos) have captured the imagination of quite a little crowd along the way.

As he nears the end of his Scottish Munros mission, Sean has already started eying up his next project – Europe! We thought we’d catch up with him to get the lowdown.

Hey Sean, thanks for chatting with us! We’ve obviously heard about the big trip ahead and wanted to get to know you a little better before you set off on this adventure of a lifetime.

First and foremost, can you tell us a bit about you and how you got into riding bikes?

I’m a 30-something scaffolder, based on the east coast of Scotland, who is too stubborn to give up on his dream of riding bikes for a living.

My first memories of riding didn’t actually involve a bike… I remember being out hillwalking as a child and holding imaginary bars as I ran down the hill, jumping off rocks. I really got hooked when I was around 12 though and I’ve been at it ever since.

Can you tell us about your local area? What kind of trails do you normally ride?

The east coast of Scotland is pretty flat. Lots of farming land and rolling hills. There’s not a lot of riding from the doorstep but an hour in any direction can get you the goods.

I don’t really use the local trails a lot these days apart for from training and general bike time in the evening. For me, it’s all about real mountains and wild descents.

We know you’ve got a special build in the making; can you tell us more about the dream setup you’ve got going on?

Absolutely, this monster is a Zerode Taniwha, running a Pinion C-Line Gearbox with Gates Belt Drive.

It’s a Silent Assassin. Fox front and rear, PNW Components throughout for my finishing kit, Rolling on LightBicycle rims laced to Onyx hubs. Trickstuff Direttissima slow me down, while Schwalbe tyres keep me on the trail.

You’re an ambassador for Urge helmets, who are big on putting the environment first. Can you tell us more about what this means to you?

I’ve been with Urge for over 4 years now. It’s a company that I’m incredibly proud to represent. They are paving the way for other mountain bike manufacturers around the world, while creating an incredible range of helmets to cover all bases and all price points.

Now for the juicy stuff – you’re soon to embark on a pretty epic trip. Can you tell us more?

For the last 4 years, I’ve been carrying my bike to the top of each of Scotland’s 282 Munros, I have less than 80 left. The end of this project is inevitable.

With that though, comes the opportunity for new projects. I love exploring new mountains, and more often than not, taking my bike where people say it can’t be ridden. On the 2nd of July, I embark on a Euro trip, namely for Switzerland to begin exploring some bigger 4,000m mountains and broaden my horizons. This is where I see my future.

Sounds like a proper expedition! What helmet(s) are you packing for the trip?

I will be using the All-Air and Lunar helmets for the trip and beyond.
