Our workshop recently installed CeramicSpeed\u2019s new BB Alpha on a Colnago C68 Pas Normal Limited Edition. Here are some photos of the installation, to demonstrate the tool in use, and give you some information on the BB Alpha too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The CeramicSpeed Crank Bolt Tool is straightforward to use. Firstly, thread the supplied axle into the pedal threads. Then, the hex key is inserted into the centre of the crank arm, and the other end fitted onto the axle which you have just installed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tightening the hand wheel pulls the hex key and crank arm towards each other. In turn, this rotates the crank bolt anti-clockwise and loosens it using controlled leverage. This greatly reduces the risk of rounding the crank bolt, or causing some other sort of accidental damage, which is especially important when working on premium bikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Additional advantages to this method are that it doesn’t put unusual forces through the frame, and the crank bolt can be easily undone when the bike is in a work stand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The BB Alpha is CeramicSpeeds latest bottom bracket. The previous generation was already the benchmark, but they\u2019ve improved it further. Less friction, and even more durable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Before launch, CeramicSpeed tested the BB Alpha for over a million kilometres in both the real world and laboratory. It\u2019s hand made in Denmark, and comes with a lifetime warranty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We always recommend using a CeramicSpeed bottom bracket tool. They’re precision machined for a snug fit. This reduces the risk of scratching the bottom bracket, or causing damage by having a tool slip out off the bottom bracket under load. It also features a magnetic centre guide, for 22.2, 24, 28 and 30mm bearing bores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To save mechanics time, CeramicSpeed supply the DUB spacers in a small packet with a QR code.
